People in Our Communities
We have a role to play in improving the lives of the people behind every Twinings drink.
Our on-the-ground teams listen directly to people who grow, pick and produce our tea and herbs, as well as their wider communities.
Where we become aware of issues in our supply chain, we aim to work with suppliers and, where necessary others, to help address them. We also invest in local programmes that focus on supporting livelihoods, enhancing working conditions, providing educational opportunities and seeking to empower women. By working collaboratively, we strive to contribute to healthier, more resilient communities.
Principles of responsible business
We’re working hard to do business in a way that’s responsible and that unlocks opportunities for everyone. By focusing on supply chain transparency, building strong relationships with suppliers and advocating for formal ways for workers to speak up and be heard, we aim to support fair treatment of workers and care for the land.
Robust risk identification and monitoring
Many of our sourcing regions may be vulnerable to climate change, economic inequality and potential human rights risks. Our Supplier Code of Conduct and Human Rights Policy guide us and our suppliers in respecting human rights and labour principles. To ensure that our standards are met and risks managed effectively, we take a layered, risk-based approach to monitoring.
Our social programmatic work
Some of the social challenges faced by communities in our supply chain are systemic and deep-rooted. That’s why we invest in programmes to help improve access to clean water and sanitation, address gender-based violence and harassment, and champion women’s empowerment. Together with suppliers, local partners, NGOs and other brands, we strive to improve the lives of people in our supply chain.
