Twinings Unveils New ESG Strategy in 2025 Sustainability Report

Today marks an important moment in our sustainability journey as we continue working to build a more responsible, resilient and transparent business. We are proud to launch Twinings’ new 2025 Sustainability Report.

Alongside a clear and open account of the actions we’ve taken, the report introduces our evolved Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. This refreshed framework sets out how we aim to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world while aligning with key regulatory requirements.

By sharing our progress and priorities openly, we are strengthening accountability and inviting our stakeholders to join us in shaping a more sustainable future.

Olav Silden, CEO of Twinings, describes this as a new chapter for us: “We are embarking on a new chapter - one where purpose, integrity, and accountability help us in our aim to raise standards across our industry. Our evolved strategy is not only vital for the resilience of our business, but for the health of our planet and the wellbeing of the people across our supply chain who make every drink possible.”

Key highlights of our report include:

  • Net Zero Commitment: We have set ambitious near- and long-term science-based targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aiming to achieve net-zero by 2050.
  • Human Rights & Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD): We have strengthened our monitoring efforts with proprietary tools like our Factory Monitoring Improvement Programme (FMIP) and our Twinings Community Needs Assessment (TCNA)programme, which goes beyond solely relying on third-party certification.
  • Female Empowerment & Worker Safety: Since 2022, we have supported the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) to address gender-based violence in Indian tea estates, enhancing awareness and support for women and girls. We have also launched initiatives in sourcing regions, including supervisor training programmes in Kenya.
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH): Over 3,500 latrines and 346 water points have been constructed within our WaSH Programme, benefiting more than 18,700 people in India, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. In the second phase of our programme, we aim to build an additional 800 toilets across eight of the gardens we source from in Assam, to help accelerate the closing of the sanitation and water gap.
  • Sustainable Packaging: All of our tea bags are now industrially compostable, with 86% being home compostable. We are striving for all consumer packaging to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2030.

Our strategy, which has been shaped by stakeholder engagement and grounded in risk assessments, is reinforced by strong governance through the Twinings ESG Governance Committee. This ensures oversight and bolsters our commitment to transparency, continuous improvement, and industry-wide collaboration, as we work to help facilitate healthier communities and reduce our environmental footprint.

We invite stakeholders, partners, and consumers to explore the full report and join us on our path towards a more sustainable tea and herbs industry. For more details, visit www.sourcedwithcare.com.
