Twinings’ Net-Zero Emissions Targets get SBTi Seal of Approval

We’re delighted to share a key development in Twinings’ environmental strategy: we have received official validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our emissions reduction targets. This recognition confirms that our targets align with the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

This endorsement underscores our commitment to meaningfully reducing Twinings’ environmental impact. We are working towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our entire value chain by 2050, with carefully crafted targets that address the unique aspects of our business. Our emissions reduction goals are divided into two categories: Energy and Industry (E&I), covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG), focusing exclusively on Scope 3 emissions.

Together, these pathways form a robust science-aligned framework that will drive progress in the years ahead.

By 2030, we aim to reduce absolute emissions in our two key categories as follows:

Category

Scope Emissions

Absolute emission reduction target

E&I

Scope 1, 2, & 3

42%

FLAG

Scope 3

30.3%

Looking ahead to 2050, we have more ambitious plans to reduce absolute emissions in our two key categories as follows:

Category

Scope Emissions

Absolute emission reduction target

E&I

Scope 1, 2, & 3

90%

FLAG

Scope 3

72%

These targets highlight our commitment to responsible business practices and implementing meaningful change across our global operations and supply chains.

Olav Silden, CEO of Twinings said: “I want to thank everyone who played a role in reaching this milestone. The hard work already underway — and planned for the future — is essential to achieving these targets. Every individual in our business has a role to play in helping us meet our commitments and seeking to drive the industry-wide transformation needed to address the climate crisis.”

The SBTi’s approval validates our climate strategy and demonstrates our commitment to help combat climate change and foster a sustainable future for all.
