Protecting workers’ rights and improving incomes

A stable income in essential for a decent quality of life. Twinings does not employ anybody on tea estates and farms . But we contribute to their employment through our supply chain, as well as to the livelihoods of many smallholder farmers.

We support communities we source from, to improve resilience and income so they can meet their needs and those of their family. This includes learning to farm alongside nature and finding new ways to adapt to climate change.

Sustainable farming and biodiversity

Biodiversity loss presents a huge risk to tea and herb communities. We believe that farming in harmony with nature and taking care of the environment will enable smallholder farmers to keep growing tea and herbs while earning a stable income.

Through Sourced with Care, we are supporting farmers to adopt more sustainable, nature-friendly farming practices, so they can continue to make a living from tea and herb farming while taking care of the environment.

Empowering tea communities

We have been working with CARE International since 2017 to establish Community Development Forums (CDFs) on tea estates. These ‘mini-parliaments’ provide people with a much-needed space to address grievances with their employers, hold businesses accountable and make collective decisions about community development.
